Gold Fountain Pens

Fountain pens are introduced to us during the early years of our education, as fountain pens are said to improve the writing of a person. Hence, a nice fountain pen during the early years can give a person the right start, at least for the handwriting.

As we grow old the need for speed takes over and we switch to more convenient rollerball pen. Once we outgrow that age too, the necessity of a pen is overtaken by a need to show status and power. A literary person is supposed to posses a good fountain pen.

For centuries now, Gold is also associated with the symbol of  richness. When the two worlds of richness in mind and richness in pocket combine, they can best be demonstrated by Gold Fountain Pens.Gold Fountian Pens

Gold Fountain Pens are available in various combinations, just like an ornament or a jewel piece. They can be found as Gold Fountain Pens carved in wood or combined with various other elements, even a wood gold fountain pen.

Gold fountain pen history

  • Fountain pens are successors of dip pens, which required frequent dips in the ink to write. Dip pens would write as long as the ink on the tip would last. As soon as the ink used to dry, primitive fountain pens were required to be dipped in the ink again.
  • To fight the frequent dips, a new model of fountain pens was introduced, the new fountain pen was a combination of a ink storage area and a capillary at the end of it, which would release ink only when touched to a surface and in small quantity. The new fountain pen would save a lot of ink and was the answer to frequent dips.
  • The problem with new fountain pen was that the capillary was susceptible to be broken. Hence a new age fountain pen was introduced. This version of fountain pen had a nib made of iron. The nib of a fountain pen a also worked like capillary but it was much more sturdy. Problem with this nib was that it used to corrode due to constant exposure to water based ink.
  • A gold fountain pen solved the problem completely. Any nib (majority iridium nibs) is mostly covered with gold to fight corrosion.

Types of Gold Fountain Pens

Solid Gold Fountain Pens

It is a a completely gold carved pen which has everything about it golden… except for the ink though. Although very scarcely manufactured and mostly considered a collectors pen, there are many people who dream about it every night. Once I happened to see a completely magical black and gold fountain pen. And as they say, you cannot capture the beauty of a rainbow, even in the most generous of the words; I also would not be able to tell you the feeling of writing with it. I still have the paper saved with me on which I just scribbled by name with that pen.Gold Fountain Pens

Vintage fountain pen

Again a collector’s item rather than a utility. I have seen collection of the capillary pens with people. Some people specially make the ink which is compatible with the vintage fountain pens to keep their treasures in working conditions. Some antique gold fountain pens also form a part of the collection but looking at their non working condition, one can only feel that the quality may have reduced as compared to the pens of ancient times.

Will provide a complete list of types of fountain pen in my next post, you would be amazed to see how many varieties exist. The best one of them is the Retractable Fountain Pen

Cleaning Fountain Pens

The cleaning of fountain pens should be done very carefully. Due to under use, sometimes the ink in the fountain pens dries out, which requires regular cleaning. If you are cleaning your fountain pens regularly then you can do it with water also. If you do the cleaning of fountain pens irregularly then you can buy some fountain pen cleansing agents from the market. Take special care while cleaning your gold fountain pen as it may react with some of the chemicals in the cleansing agents. Always look out for cleansing agents with less oxygen so that the corrosion gets reduced.

There are few pioneers who have established there names in the world of writing:

Cartier pen, Sailor fountain pen, Namiki fountain pen (aka Namiki Vanishing point fountain pen), Visconti fountain pen, Montblanc pen (people often misspell), Fountain pen Hero,

Fountain Pen Nibs

There are two types of fountain pen nibs one, which are not tipped, and the other, which are tipped with a hard-wearing metal (usually iridium). Most inexpensive fountain pens fall into the first category. Without an iridium tip they do not last long and may have to be sharpened frequently, particularly if one has a heavy writing pressure. Pens with untipped Italic nibs include Manuscript, and the calligraphy ranges by Parker 51 fountain pen, Lamy pen, Sheaffer pen and Pelikan pen. Then there are also Gold fountain pen which are a contrast to the cheap fountain pens. It is very difficult to find any Gold Fountain Pen sale anywhere, just like MasterCard’s – priceless items.

How to write with a fountain pen

The posture of writing with a fountain pen can differ from person to person. However, it has been medically proven that people suffering from arthritis should use fountain pen so that the pressure is reduced.
